Falinge Park High School

Date published: 17 July 2013

Thanks to all the students who participated in a great Sports Day and got really involved in the sporting activities. We had a great day and there were some lovely moments of team spirit and supportive competition. Well done to those learners who arrived in their community colours and thanks to the Healthy Lifestyles Faculty for their work.

This Saturday sees fourteen learners off to Whitehaven to look at the impact of the Arts on a seaside economy and visits are planned for the harbour and the ‘Rum Story’ Visitor Centre. Learners will get a chance to see the arts and cultural attractions of the Lake District town. The visit departs at 7.30am and returns at 6.00pm. Well done to all the learners who are coming along. For more details, see Mr De Courcey.

Our CALL Summer School starts on Monday the 29 July and closes on Friday 2 August. Learners have been issued with letters with the start and finish times of each day and they should initially report to the Main Reception at the back of school. The week long school includes a visit to ‘The Deep’ in Hull and the Museums Quarter and to the Yorkshire Museum and National Rail Museum in York. The theme for the week is ‘Amazing Discoveries’ and some great activities are planned. If students were unable to return their letters for the Summer School but would still like to come along then they should report to Main Reception at school on Monday 29th of July with the correctly completed forms. For more details, see Mr. De Courcey or Mr Mvula.

A brand new competition to challenge and inspire our Arts learners has been posted on the school website and is open to all learners of school. Students are invited to create a song, dance, drama or piece of visual art based around theme of ‘Heatwave’. The entry form and rule guidelines are available to download and we look forward to seeing some impressive work in September. Three great prizes will be up for grabs from the best three entries.

Our new edition of ‘Create!’, the Creative, Expressive and Performing Arts Newsletter is out and is available to read on the school website. Issued to learners across school via Tutor groups and to friends of school, it features a range of projects and showcases in the Arts at FPHS over the past two months. A copy can be downloaded from www.falingepark.com

New uniform is available to buy now with our new logo and we ask that when parents buy items of schoolwear they purchase our new branded clothing. For more advice, please contact Ms Barlow or Ms Baron directly at school. We hope that we can roll-out our new uniform over the next twelve months.

First day of school for learners commences on Wednesday 4 of September. New Year 7 pupils and Year 8 pupils should start at 8.20am. New Year 7 students should go straight to the Lower Year Centre. Year 8 Students will be signposted to Tutor Rooms.

New Year 9’s, 10’s and 11’s should arrive during the morning break i.e. between 10.45am and 11.00am. This enables the new intake to settle, find their way around school and make new friends from the year above. Ordinary lessons will begin in periods 4 and 5.

Year 11 students can collect their GCSE exam results from the Lower Year Centre from 9.30am on Thursday 22 August.

Year 10 and Year 9 students can collect their results from 11.00am also from the Lower Year Centre.

The Lower Year Centre will close at 12.00 noon, but from 12.00 noon until 1.00pm results can be collected from the door opposite the ICT Centre.

If any student wishes to have their results posted home, they should leave a stamped addressed envelope at Pupil Reception before 23 July.

We wish all our learners, families and friends a lovely holiday and a well-earned break.
