Schools asked to make a difference for people affected by cancer…

Date published: 15 July 2013

Macmillan Cancer Support is asking schools in Rochdale to make time for what really matters on 27 September by hosting a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and helping to raise over £15million for people affected by cancer.

A spokesperson said: "World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event supports the curriculum and is a good opportunity to talk to pupils about cancer, the importance of kindness and helping people. It is a chance for students to learn cooking skills, consider healthy eating choices and develop entrepreneurial skills. They can also work together to organise the event; including, creating invites, setting up and greeting guests, to taking and calculating money. Nurseries can use their event to engage parents and explore topics such as sharing and feelings."

At 23 years old, World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s flagship fundraiser and most successful charity fundraising event of its sort. In 2012, more than 11,000 schools in the UK contributed towards a record amount of £15million.

The spokesperson added: "The valuable funds raised by coffee morning help Macmillan provide vital support in Rochdale and make sure no one has to face cancer alone.

Rose Tipton, Fundraising Manager for Rochdale said “It’s great that so many schools have been involved with the coffee morning in the past. This year it would be fantastic to see even more schools getting involved and having a great time whilst raising money to help fund services across Rochdale”

It’s really easy to get involved - once registered, schools will receive a free coffee morning kit with everything needed to get started, including a how to guide, posters to advertise the event, engaging assembly plans and activity sheets.
