Two Police Community Support Officers from the Pennine Neighbourhood Police team are currently offering advice and reassurance to members of the local community about crime rates (Monday 15 July).
PCSOs Stefan Wilson and Stephanie Leigh and making their presence in the community known by parking up outside the Co-Operative shop on Grosvenor Street, Castleton.
As well as offering reassurance, the team are letting people know about safe plates. This is a system where anti-tamper caps are used to secure car number plates. Once the screw is fitted, it cannot be removed.
PCSO Stefan Wilson said: “These types of crime have always been high. Removing number plates can be used for armed robberies and diesel theft.”
Posters about safe plate technology have been placed in the Co-operative shop and have been placed around Rochdale town centre.
PCSO Stephanie Leigh added: “There have been a lot of armed robberies in this area so we just want to let people know we are here.”
The response to the officers has been welcomed with PCSO Leigh adding: “We have had a number of people interested and hope to have more later on.”
