Alkrington Primary Summer Fayre

Date published: 15 July 2013

The Alkrington Primary school summer fayre raised over £2,200 for the school.

The fayre held at the school raised money for the PTA to build an outdoor shelter.

Opened by actress Suranne Jones, the fayre included games, a funfair, face painting, tombola, raffle and a game based on the popular ITV television show, The Cube.

Suranne Jones, best known for her role as Karen McDonald in Coronation street also spent time meeting and talking to pupils. She spent time with the schools community ambassadors, pupils who represent the school within four different communities.

School Business Manager, Karen Bracken said: “The children have done work with a school in Kenya and Suranne has done work in the Congo so it was nice for them to talk about that.”

With over 400 pupils attending the school, the fayre was supported by their families, friends and local businesses.

Karen added: “It’s down to the support of the community. It is nice to know that we have a strong community

“It was great. A really, really good day that people really enjoyed.”

“The PTA work so hard and that needs to be recognised. They were here for days organising everything before the fair.”
