Heywood Big Games

Date published: 14 July 2013

Around 1,500 people enjoyed the Heywood Big Games, a free family fun day, that took place at Queen’s Park today, Sunday 14 July, in glorious weather.

The event was designed with children and families in mind. There was a whole host of things going on including singing, arts and crafts, face painting and games and sports including, angling, golf, BMX, orienteering, cricket, crown green bowls and rugby. There were also other fun activities such as a junior assault course and mountain bike track.

Link4Life organise the event in partnership with the Friends of Queen’s Park. The aim is to promote local clubs and groups and to get more people more active.

Link4Life Event Co-ordinator, Donna Livesey and fellow organiser Donna Costigan said: “There’s such a variety of events going on today; carrying on the Olympic legacy is so important. The athletes we saw last summer should be an inspiration.”

Donna added: “The Big Games aims to help people find out more about the wide range of resources on their doorstep and how they can get to use them on a regular basis.”
