Saint Clement's Church Strawberry Fair

Date published: 13 July 2013

Members of Saint Clement's Church on Willbutts Lane, Rochdale held a strawberry fair today (Saturday 13 July) to raise money to keep their church up and running.

The church needs to keep raising money to not only keep the church running but to also repair their beloved organ. Church minister Karen Smeeton said: “We need a lot of money to keep this place up and running.”

Unfortunately, lead thieves have recently targeted the church, and water ingress has affected the church organ. Karen added: “The led thieves damaged the roof so water has gotten into the organ and damaged it. It is an air lume so it needs a lot of care and attention.”

During the strawberry fair, activities included lawn games, a quiz, jumble sale and a variety of strawberry themed foods.

Organiser Bev Wrigley said: “The event has been successful in the past and we’ve certainly got the weather for it.”

Karen added: “We have been trying a lot of new fundraising ideas and we just want people to come and spend lots of money and have fun.”
