The NSPCC Littleborough District Committee is celebrating after raising over £500 for the charity from their ‘Great Bakery Competition’.

Special guests the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale attended the event, which was held at the Littleborough Cricket Club, and saw 38 entries across the twelve possible baking and bread classes. The overall winners in each category were presented with prizes by Andrew Nutter of Nutter’s Restaurant.

There was food stalls, face painting, tombola and raffle, NSPCC cake stalls and a children’s cake decoration stall for people to enjoy. The judging panel were also on hand answer people’s baking queries.

Deborah Sefton, NSPCC community fundraising manager, said: “The Great Bakery Competition was a brilliant day. The standard of entries was extremely high, with the judging panel having a very difficult decision in choosing the overall winners.

“I’d like to thank the Littleborough District committee for organising the event, plus the Littleborough Cricket Club and all the businesses who supported the event, not forgetting of course all the brilliant bakers who made some delicious treats.

"I’m delighted the event was such a success and raised much needed funds for some of the region’s most vulnerable children and young people.”

The money raised from the baking competition will help the NSPCC to save, change and improve the lives of children through its local community services, a helpline for adults worried about a child and ChildLine – the UK’s free, confidential 24-hour helpline and online service dedicated to children and young people.
