Heywood charities fete set to be the best yet

Date published: 12 July 2013

The committee of this year's Heywood charities fete are hoping to make this years fete bigger than it has been before.

Chairman of the committee, Steve Brown said: “We’re keeping tradition alive.”

The fete, which has been running since before the First World War, is planned for 1 September and takes a year to plan and organise. Steve added: “We usually finish planning by the end of August. We still have some things to do.”

The committee is comprised of 12 people of different ages and backgrounds and the whole committee works tirelessly throughout the year to produce the final day. The committee is made up of local volunteers and co-opted members of the Rotary Club of Heywood.

The committee is responsible for organising the parade, events in the park and booking charities for the day.

Steve said: “This fete gives charities a chance to raise some money and it gives us a chance to distribute funds to local charities.”

Held at Queens Park in Heywood, the fete will include a dog display team, Viking arena, funfair and the open air theatre will be used for a choir.

Steve said: “We want to make sure everyone has a fun day.”
