Oulder Hill School

Date published: 10 July 2013

Last week, Molly Williams, Holly Devine, Liam Moore, Kallum Butterworth, Anna Opincane and Georgina Butterworth attended the Celebration and Assessment at Manchester University for Go4SET.

Go4SET is a project run over 10 weeks to encourage young people to take up STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects and also gives them experience of working with a professional mentor - ours was Dimitrios Pantazis from Laing O'Rourke – so thank you so much for your input.

The 6 pupils have worked exceptionally hard over the past few months and to produce a great report and presentation. Although they did not win they were highly praised for their presentation and report. Congratulations to them all for their achievements.

Congratulations to Mohsin Hussain of 8E who has received the prestigious Head Teacher and Governors awards for excellent behaviour and attendance during the last school year. Mohsin was presented with his awards during the Year 8 Celebration Assembly.

The Year 9/10 cricket team were unfortunately defeated by Siddall Moor in a pulsating semi-final of the Rochdale Schools Cricket tournament.

Oulder Hill batted first and achieved a respectable 81 runs with the help of some fantastic batting from Subnaan Ali who hit an unbeaten 56.

Siddall Moor then batted and reached 79 runs with three balls remaining. They required 3 runs to win off 3 balls and made that total with 1 ball to spare.

Players involved were: Subnaan Ali, Jamie Pope, Dillon Astin, Nathan Colclough, Faad Khan, Haider Rashid, Adam Deaville, Daniel Cryer, Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe, Oliver Greenwood and Aasim Khan. Well done on reaching the semi-finals lads – you played really well and were a credit to the school.

We would like to thank parents and carers of Year 10 students who attended Parents’ Evening last week. If you were unable to attend and would like to make an alternative appointment then please telephone the school to arrange this.

We would also like to thank the parents and carers of our new starters for September 2013. It was fantastic to meet so many of our parents, carers and students at the Year 6 Induction Evening, and we look forward to seeing you all again in September as the students start their secondary school career.

Last week we hosted Year 4 students from a selection of our local primary schools for International Day. The pupils took part in a variety of activities with international themes including German and Italian lessons, Bollywood dancing and Japanese art. The students all had an enjoyable day and cannot wait for next year’s event.

The Gifted and Talented Showcase last Thursday evening was a fantastic celebration of the work the Gifted and Talented students have produced this year. Well done to them all for working so hard and we look forward to seeing what you can produce for us next year.

The last Parent Forum of this school year will take place on Thursday 18 July from 6:00pm in the LRC. New and existing members are welcome to attend.

Just a reminder that school finishes for the summer break at 12:50pm on Tuesday 23 July. We hope you all have a relaxing break and we look forward to welcoming our existing students and new starters for the new school year on Wednesday 4 September.
