Big day of activities at Queen's Park
Date published: 10 July 2013
The Heywood Big Games will be returning for 2013 with a free family fun day at Queen's Park on Sunday 14 July from 11am to 3pm.
Last year over 5,000 people took part in the Big Games boroughwide during the Olympic celebrations. Link4Life is building on this as part of the London 2012 local legacy to promote local clubs and groups and to get more people more active.
Organised in partnership with the Friends of Queen's Park, and designed with children and families in mind, there's a whole host of things going on including singing, arts and crafts and face painting. Sports and games include tennis, angling, golf, BMX, orienteering, cricket, crown green bowls and rugby plus fun activities such as a junior assault course and mountain bike track. All Big Games activities are free.
Link4Life's Event Co-ordinator, Donna Livesey said: "The Big Games aims to help people find out more about the wide range of resources on their doorstep and how they can get to use them on a regular basis. We're inviting everyone to come along ready to have fun and try as many activities as possible during the day."
To make the most of the day, Link4Life advice is to wear sports or casual clothes with trainers or flat shoes. All other equipment is provided. Registration – with goody bags for the first 250 – is at the park's main entrance.
