Date published: 05 July 2013

On Thursday 4 July Wardle High School Youth Band performed at the Music For Youth National Festival.

After an amazing performance they were awarded Schools Brass Bands Certificate of Achievement for Performance Practice.

The band is conducted by Lee Rigg, who, on Tuesday, conducted Smithy Bridge Primary School Band in the Junior section of the Festival and came away with the same award.

Wardle High Youth Band performed Old 100th by Vaughan Williams (arr R Stanko), Vitae Lux by Frode Alnæ (arr T Aagaard-Nilsen) and Suite Gothique iv Toccata by Léon Boëllmann (arr E Ball).

They received some fantastic comments from the musical mentors.

For Old 100th The mentors said, ‘Wow! Great opening and great sound!’ while they commented on Vitae Lux saying, ‘So well played, thank you.’

For their last piece, Toccata they said, ‘Great dynamic control and attention to detail. Great sound, great band!’. The musical mentors finished their comments by saying ‘This is a fantastic band and obviously well trained.’

This adds to the rich history of success of Wardle bands. The Youth Band also did well recently on Whit Friday winning 10 awards from only 6 contests. Earlier in the year they achieved the prestigious title of National Champions 2013.
