River Street to close from 10 July

Date published: 05 July 2013

From Wednesday 10 July work will start to improve the road layout on River Street and Faulkner Street.

The scheme will involve widening of River Street to allow two-way traffic, the creation of a cul-de-sac at the junction of Smith Street and Faulkner Street, new loading and servicing facilities, and a new taxi rank.

To enable the first phase of these works to take place, the upper part of River Street (from its junction with Water Street to the River Street car park) will be closed for a temporary period. As a result, all vehicles will need to access and exit from Smith Street. The junction of Faulkner Street with Smith Street will be re-opened to allow this to happen. Access will be maintained to the River Street car park.

This first phase of work is expected to take four weeks.

Once complete, the new widened section of River Street will be opened up to two way traffic, and vehicles will then access and exit from Water Street.

The other phases of this highway improvement scheme are expected to take place later this year.

These works will require Faulkner Street and the lower section of River Street to be closed for a temporary period.

During all phases of the work the contractors will actively seek to maintain access to the River Street car park from either Smith Street or Water Street.
