Recycling Award for Matthew Moss School
Date published: 04 July 2013
Matthew Moss School received an award for raising awareness of how humans have an impact on our environment.
All of Year 7 took part in a project looking at different aspects of the topic in their science lessons. The learners paid a lot of attention to recycling and waste minimisation and all of the year group visited the Pilsworth Landfill site run by Viridor.
The young learners also visited the wind farm on Scout Moor when they studied renewable energy.
Over a period of weeks the Year 7 learners went into Springfield Park and Roch Valley studying air and water quality.
All of these visits and outdoor learning really brought the science behind everything to life. Looking at real situations and discussing possible problems and solutions our environment is facing.
Mr Paul Walton said: ''It is important to keep the learning real and relevant and taking our learning outdoors has had a big impact.''
