Man robbed of cash outside his own home

Date published: 03 July 2013

A man was robbed of cash outside his own home in Middleton.

The 68-year-old was attacked on Hollin Lane at about 12.25pm on 29 May 2013.

He was returning to his home when he was confronted by two men who assaulted him from behind, dragging him to the floor and rifling through his pockets.

After stealing a large amount of cash, the two men fled and ran off towards Hollin Lane and then it is believed they got into a taxi and drove off.

Police have now released two CCTV stills of two men they want to speak to in connection with this attack.

The victim did not suffer any lasting injuries but was badly shaken as a result of this attack.

Detective Constable Mark Green said: "This man was cowardly attacked from behind and robbed pretty much on his own doorstep.

"Thankfully he did not suffer any major physical injuries but you can imagine he is very shaken up and nervous about going outside.

"For his sake, I want people to look very carefully at the two images we have released and if you think you recognise these two men we need to hear from you.

"The victim is a member of our community and I'm sure everyone living in this area will share the outrage we feel. If you do have information, please come forward and help us get justice for this man."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8701 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
