Year 6
As part of the Year 6 Book Club topic, a book swap was organised for the Upper Prep Deptment.
Each child brought a book that they had read and enjoyed to swap for another recommended book. This event was to promote reading for pleasure and was very successful – it will hopefully become a regular event in school.
A big thank you to Year 6 for organizing the event and to everybody who swapped a book!
Year 10
Year 10 Art pupils had the opportunity to visit Manchester Art Gallery this term, where they viewed the great works of the English and French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. They had a wonderful time exploring the techniques used in painting first hand.
It showed works by major French artists including Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley and Auguste Renoir alongside British artists such as George Clausen, John Singer Sargent and Philip Wilson Steer.
This visit will inspire the pupils to plan and prepare over the summer holidays for their next project, ready for September.
9H
9H went to Bury College to start to undertake a day in the life of a college student.
The pupils were mixed with pupils from the other schools and studied A-Level subjects such as electronic music, psychology, art and design and many more.
The pupils were allowed to tour the campus and they even had enrichment opportunities in the afternoon such as football, dodgeball and nail art. The day has provided the pupils with a sound base to start thinking about college.
Cricket
Beech House travelled to Wigan Cricket Club to take part in the ISA Cricket festival. The team performed well but did not manage to get over the line in any of the games. The team thoroughly enjoyed the day and the exceptional player of the day went to Deazal Fairhurst for his outstanding attitude and commitment to helping others. Well done Deazal!
Athletics
Beech House again made the trip to Robins Park in Wigan to compete in the ISA Athletics Northern Area Trials. Beech House did well throughout although we did not get any athletes to the national competition.
In the Senior Athletics the Year 9 Boys team did exceptionally well with Jack Cryer and Conor Leyland qualifying for the sprint finals. The relay team also qualified for the finals. Kingsley Benson finished well in his field events and the team as a whole performed well. Well done to all those pupils concerned.
Tennis
Beech House travelled to the Lancashire Health and Racquets club to compete in the Rochdale Schools tennis.
The El-Hage girls along with Rohan Young and Callum Salford made the team up.
All pupils enjoyed the experience and are keen to try it again!
Climbing
Year 9 pupils have been to Littleborough Climbing wall to learn how to climb recently.
The pupils enjoyed learning the basics and then they enjoyed trying the different difficulty of climbs.
The group also got to visit Climb in Rochdale where they had a go at Bouldering.
The entire group enjoyed the experience and some of the group were really good at it. We will be looking at running something similar over the next academic year.
BMX Riding
Beech House have been chosen to represent Rochdale in the Greater Manchester Games for BMX riding.
As a result of this the pupils have been undertaking training at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
The pupils are learning to ride on the commonwealth BMX track and it is an experience they will not forget.
All pupils performed well, even Mr Hargreaves had a go!
