Read a book and be in with the chance of a £50 prize

Date published: 02 July 2013

Rochdale Borough Libraries are offering a chance to win £50 (provided by the Time to Read partnership) to encourage readers to broaden their horizons and try something new.

Readers have from now until 31 October 2013 to complete the ‘Reading Rewards’ challenge which involves reading eight different kinds of books. All who complete the challenge are then entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a £50 high street shopping voucher.

Almost four million adults never read books for pleasure according to new research from YouGov. However, it is well known that one of the best ways of encouraging children’s reading is when they see that reading is enjoyed by older siblings, parents and carers.

Councillor Peter Williams, cabinet member for Economic Development and Customer Services (including libraries), said: “The benefits of reading for pleasure are immense; principally it’s relaxing, keeps the brain active as well as being informative, educational and enjoyable.

“Our helpful librarians will be happy to make recommendations or discuss what books you might like based on your preferences. Join your local library and start your challenge today.”

Categories to choose from include: adventure, thriller, biography, contemporary fiction, travel and more.

Pick up a ‘Reading Rewards’ leaflet from any library in the borough or take part online at time-to-read.co.uk

Anyone can become a library member at any age and it’s free.
