Student artists impress in end of year show

Hopwood Hall College opened its doors recently and invited the public in to view students work, as part of the College’s ‘The Arts’ end of year show.

The show, which was held in the College’s Benjamin Rudman building, in Rochdale, quickly filled with guests.

Preparation for the show had caused a real buzz with students, as work that had been toiled over for weeks was made ready to be revealed at the show.

Morgan Fay, 18, from Rochdale, who has just completed her Level 1 vocational studies art and design course, was just one of the many students who enjoyed showing their work during the show. Her course leader, Sarah Green commented: “Morgan has worked extremely hard throughout the year and is a very talented student. Her final project was based on films from the 1980s and Morgan has produced a series of mixed media pieces to represent the film ET.”

Clive Reid, Vice Chairman of the College’s governing body was one of the guests at the show. He was asked to pick his favourite piece of work from the National Diploma year two exhibition. He chose the fine ceramic ‘shoal of carp’ piece created by 18-year-old, fine art student, Joe Connors.

Teachers from local schools, who were keen to support their former students, also attended. The teachers were enthusiastic about the work and were impressed by the continued progress they were making. Their visit made the evening even more special for the students.

Guests commented that this year’s show was the best yet and that students had once again shown what a talented, creative group of people they are.
