Fire-fighters tackle blaze at unoccupied warehouse
Date published: 27 June 2013
Smoke is billowing over Castleton tonight (27/6/13) as the old building of engineering firm W.R. Anderton, Maltings Lane, near Castleton railway station is on fire.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service received the call just after 7.00pm and three fire engines were sent to fight the blaze.
The building suffered major damage to the first and second floors. Three fire crews were sent to put out the fire which was described as significant by a spokesman from the fire department.
A fourth fire engine from Oldham was sent out with a raised platform to try and help tackle the fire.
The fire was eventually put out just before midnight and on Friday 28 June there will be a building inspection from Rochdale Council to decide whether the building should be knocked down.
