Many thanks to all the parents, friends and students who came along to our C.A.L.L. ‘New Ghosts’ Exhibition which took place on Friday 28 June in the Upper Year Centre. Learners created a wide range of text using various creative processes. Highlights of the exhibition included stories on clothing, story scrolls, poster books, performance work, animation and poetry footprints. Also on display was the recent CALL Greek Myths and Legends homework project. Well done to everyone involved in the day and to our students who produced some impressive pieces of art and literature.

Well done to all the learners who attended the ‘Create!’ Arts Newsletter 25 Edition Party on Wednesday 26 June in F5 at lunchtime. Learners were able to see all 25 editions of our Arts College Newsletter and take a sneek peek at the new style newsletter which will be distributed shortly. The party included a range of refreshments and an origami and papercraft workshop. Many thanks to all the students who came along and took part.

Letters for our forthcoming sponsored walk have been issued to all students and a prompt reply is appreciated. For a spare letter or more details, please see Ms Wood.

We are awaiting the return of updated Data Consent Forms from a number of students and these need to be returned as a matter of urgency. Please contact MsGater at Pupil Reception if you need another copy please.

We look forward to welcoming our new Year 6 intake into school on Tuesday 2 July at 8.20am. Year 6 students should enter school by the front entrance and make their way to the Lower Year Centre. We hope all our new students have a fantastic day and have the opportunity to ask any important questions. The Royal Exchange Theatre Company came into school to speak to Year 9 Drama students this week about career opportunities and professional theatre. The students took part in a short workshop and participated in a bried question and answer session. Well done to all the students who took part.

Many thanks to all the Year 7 and 8 boys who participated in the Drama Workshop with 2Tour Theatre Company this week. Over 40 Year 7 and 8 boys took part in hour-long sessions based on filming and role-play over the course of the morning and we hope that they may like to join our well-established Drama Club next year.

Year 7 CALL learners are off to Gracie Fields Theatre on the 9 July as part of a Healthy Eating project. The students have created a short drama to showcase to learners from other schools. Please can students who have not returned their permission slips, do so promptly. Many thanks to Ms Wystawnoha for leading the project.

Congratulations to Ms Rogerson and the twenty Gifted and Talented CALL Learners who attended the Creative Writing and Tommy Donbavand workshop earlier in the year as their work is nearly finished. Learners produced a range of short stories and we have compiled them into a great storybook. We look forward to holding a launch event before the end of term.

This weekend sees the close of the Big C.E.P.A. Wordsearch competition and we have been delighted with the number of entries we have received. We will judge the winners on Monday and shortly issue certificates and prizes.

Letters for the CEPA Visit to Whitehaven on the 20 July have been issued to all learners and the visit is open to all learners in all years. The day long visit includes a trip to the harbour and town centre and a chance to see ‘The Rum Story’ Visitor Centre, featuring an Amazonian rainforest and smuggler’s den. Tickets for our forthcoming drama, ‘Furi: A Viking Drama’ are available from the CEPA Office at breaktimes and after school. Tickets are priced at £3.00 (No concs.) and can be bought in advance only. The show takes place on Thursday 11th of July at 7pm and tells the tale of the meeting of a Viking boy and a witch on the moors of ancient Britain. For purchase of tickets outside the school community, please contact school by phone.

Our C.A.L.L. Summer School takes place on the week beginning 29 July through to the 2 August and features visits to ‘The Deep’ and The Museum’s Quarter in Hull and The National Rail Museum and Yorkshire Museum in York. The Summer School is available for up to forty Year 6 learners joining us in September. For more details, contact Mr De Courcey or Mr Mvula. Letters have been issued to learners and we appreciate prompt replies directly to school.
