St Cuthbert's Summer Concert

Date published: 26 June 2013

We had a wonderful evening of entertainment at our Summer Concert.

There were a range of performers: solo singers, St Cuthbert's Boy's Ensemble and some of our talented musicians. We also had a very moving guest appearance form a past pupil Zak Grenier, who is now studying performing Arts in Blackpool.

Trophies were presented to performers and certificates were given to our Yr 11 leavers who have shown great commitment to the Expressive Arts department in the last five years. Performers will also be entertaining in school at the Pensioners Tea Party later this term.

Well done to all the Year 10 students who handed in applications for Head boy and Head Girl this week – the campaigning now begins. Speeches are on 4 July.

This week’s theme was ‘Prayer and the Sacrament of Healing’.

Our Enterprise capability was CHANGE and this half-term’s focus for Year 7 is REFLECTION AND EVALUATION.

Our Saint of the Week was St Irenaeus, who was born in the year 125 in Asia Minor, where the memory of the Apostles was still recent and treasured and where many Christians lived. His faith was directly influenced by St Polycarp who had personally known the Apostles.

His ministry began as a priest in Lyons, France, but he was then sent to Rome. Whilst he was away, he was spared great persecution in France when the Bishop of Lyons was martyred. He wrote five books in which he set out how the teachings of the Gnostics differed from the teaching of the Faith which had been passed down directly from the Apostles.

The date of St Irenaeus’ death is believed to be 202. His tomb was destroyed by Calvinists in 1562. Students were asked to reflect on how we show respect for our faith which has been handed down to us through the generations.

Dates for the diary: Year 6 Induction Day – Tuesday 2 July.
