Hollingworth students raise money for Cancer Research
Date published: 25 June 2013
An inspirational teacher has a lead a group of year 8 pupils from Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College in raising vital funds for Cancer Research.
The pupils, Maisie Lee, Katie Lee, Megan Cross, Emily North, Chloe Rigby and Luke Heywood organised a 'Onesie Walk' around Hollingworth Lake in order to support the fund raising efforts of their teacher Mr Bell who had spoken to the class about raising money for charity.
Mr Bell had a three day walk planned for a charity close to his heart ‘In Jimmy’s Footsteps’.
After listening to their teacher and seeing how a small act of kindness from individuals can make a huge difference to others, the group decided they would do their own event. This involved signing up Cancer Research and gaining permission from Hollingworth Lake.
On Sunday 23 June, the group set off for the walk around Hollingworth Lake. Many people donated, some had stories of their own about the effects of cancer and the Onesie Walkers got a mass of support and kind words.
The group raised £107.98.
