Three retirements at St John's RC Primary School

Date published: 25 June 2013

St John’s will be a different place in September 2013 as three teachers with 44 years of experience retire.

Mrs Duffy, who started in 1989 as a leader of the foundation stages, made the jump to deputy head within a few years. In addition to her main role, she has also spent her time at the school dealing with children with special educational needs.

Head teacher Jed Morgan said: “She went above and beyond when the school was going through some difficulties”.

Mrs Kecyk, who joined the school in 2002, is originally from Ukraine has helped numerous children from outside the United Kingdom to deal with a new country.

Mr Morgan said: “She has been excellent in dealing with children who are struggling to learn English as a second language.”

Mrs Orford has helped deal with the faith side of St. John’s and has spent her time as the Religious Education coordinator. Mrs Orford started her time at the school in the nursery but quickly found her calling as Religious Education co-ordinator.

Mr Morgan said: “Mrs Orford has helped children begin their journey with faith and organised various communions throughout her time at the school.”

Speaking about all three teachers, Mr Morgan said: “They have been stalwarts at the school; I wish them a long and happy retirement.”
