Caitlin Mathews selected for England

Date published: 20 June 2013

Caitlin Mathews has been selected to play for the Under 16 Girls England team which will be competing in the Partille Cup.

The Partille Cup is the world’s largest and most international youth handball tournament.

The event takes place in Gothenburg, Sweden each summer.

Caitlin, a student at Siddal Moor Sports College, is a member of the schools’ squad and has been playing the sport for three years. The squad has qualified for the English Schools Cup Finals in London at the end of June.

Team coach Sue Whitehead, who helped co-ordinate the handball competition at the London 2012 Olympics said: “Caitlin thoroughly deserves to be one of the 16 girls selected to represent England. She is totally committed and has worked really hard.

"Everyone at Siddal Moor is really proud of her and wishes her luck in Sweden and would like to wish Caitlin every success in her Handball Career."

Caitlin’s’ family would like to thank Colin Latham of ADP Ceiling Limited for his sponsorship.

Caitlin is also a regular with North East Manchester Hawks Handball Club, which is based at Siddal Moor, and only last week was a member of the team that was successful in becoming English Cup Winners for U18 girls 2013.
