Students learn about retail service

Date published: 19 June 2013

A group of learners have just completed a BTEC Level 1 Edexcel Retail Knowledge qualification. As part of the course they learnt all about how to work together and how the retail industry works, as well as about health and safety procedures and the importance of offering good customer service.

Cheryl Pilkington, from Middleton, one of the learners on the course commented: “At first I was unsure about doing the course, but I am glad that I did. It has helped me to overcome my fear of computers and I have met new people.” While fellow student, Sosikull Islam, from Oldham, said: “I have learnt a lot about customer service and how important it is to any core business.”

Karen Humphreys, Contract Manager at Training @ Hopwood added: “The course is great for people who are looking to get into the retail sector. It’s the perfect way to learn new skills, refresh old skills and gain confidence in the process. We’re really proud of the group and wish them the best of luck in their future careers in retail.”

Indeed it is this confidence that John Berry, from Middleton, who has also just completed the course, believes will help him.

He explains: “The course has been a great refresher for me. Getting this qualification has improved my confidence and will help me to find a job in retail.”
