St Cuthbert's Business and Enterprise College

Year 7 Football: after an extremely successful first season in which they were crowned Rochdale Schools' Cup Winners and finished second in the league, St. Cuthbert's Year 7 boys attended their end of season awards assembly last Friday. Kyle Humphreys was awarded Managers' Player of the Year by Mr. Hall and Mr. Kenny for his consistently outstanding performances. Gerard Greaves was awarded the prestigious Players' Player of the Year Award, which was voted for by his fellow team-mates.

Year 11 students celebrated their Leavers’ Mass on Thursday – it was a very spiritual occasion giving friends the chance to celebrate all of their successes over the last five years.

Well done to all the Year 10 students who handed in applications for Head boy and Head Girl this week – the campaigning now begins. Speeches are on 4 July.

Congratulations to Clareese Boluch and Nicole McCormick who were the winner and runner-up in our competition to create a design based on the theme of ‘Jesus, The Good Shepherd’. A big thank you to all 60 students who entered. Clareese’s winning design will represent St Cuthbert’s on a prayer cloth which will be used by the Diocese. Both Clareese and Nicole attended a special Year of Faith Mass at the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Salford, on Thursday.

The Music department took eight pupils from Yrs 7-11 to Sacred Heart Primary School for an afternoon Concert. There were a range of performers: solo singers, St Cuthbert's Boy's Ensemble and some of our talented musicians. The pupils performed for the whole school including some parents. They will also be entertaining in school at the Pensioners Tea Party later this term.

Dates for the diary: Year 6 Intake Evening – Tuesday 25 June; Year 6 Induction Day – Tuesday 2 July (Intake Day for children from non-partner primary schools - 21 June).

This week’s theme was Making a Sacrifice and our Enterprise capability was INNOVATION. This half-term’s focus for Year 7 is REFLECTION AND EVALUATION.

Our Saints of the Week were St John Fisher and St Thomas More whose Feast Day is Saturday 22nd June. Both were beheaded in 1535 by King Henry VIII whose command they had resisted in the matter of his divorce. So strong was their faith that they were prepared to die for it in the sure knowledge that they would be reunited with their loved ones again in heaven one day. Students were challenged to think about their own beliefs and values and prayed for the intercession of St John Fisher and St Thomas More to help them to witness their own faith through their words and actions.
