REAG clean up park near King Street East

Date published: 17 June 2013

On Saturday 15 June, members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) cleaned King Street East, Eastbourne Street, Mere Street and the park surrounded by  Kent Street, Tweedale Street, William Street, Mere Street, Castlemere Street, Henry Street, Milkstone Road and Devon Street.

The members  met residents and shopkeepers who were proactive in cleaning their own areas where they have businesses and residences

REAG "encourages the people of Rochdale to take responsibility of their homes and businesses and ensure their areas are clean. This should be a collective effort as Rochdale Environmental Action Group alone cannot achieve it."

Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) will be holding its “Celebration of REAG’s achievement" at 4.30pm on Wednesday 26 June at Castlemere Community Centre, Tweedale Street, Rochdale OL11 1HH. The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale will also attend and will be presenting the certificates to these volunteers.

There will be a report of the achievement during the first year 2012-2013 i.e. the number of volunteers who took part in the clean ups, number of hours, number of bags collected, number of businesses they contacted, etc.

REAG is campaigning to improve environment in the Borough and asking the Rochdale Council to take immediate steps about improving the condition of the derelict buildings and open areas which are being used for fly tipping.

Milkstone & Deeplish area is the gateway to the Borough for people using trains and Metrolink. In the light of the various physical developments in the Rochdale Town Centre, this area does not present a positive image of the Town. REAG would like to see the improvement in and around the Town Centre.
