Students complete Project towards GCSE qualification

Date published: 17 June 2013

Year 9 learners at Matthew Moss have recently completed their Project qualification and we would like to congratulate them on all their hard work. This is the second year that Year 9 have completed Project, a qualification worth half a GCSE that helps students develop broader study skills, offering a route into further and higher education and employment.

The Project qualification allows learners to explore an area of interest and devise a question which they seek answers to. The projects are independently driven and allow learners to develop the skills they may require for the work place and further education. Some of these skills include: learning how to manage their time efficiently through effective planning, learning how to solve problems, communicating with people and understanding how to research and reference correctly.

Learners completed all different types of projects ranging from photography to physiology, food to fashion and sports to science. Learners spent time reflecting on their progress and working with a mentor to discuss their projects and ideas. The end of the project saw all learners complete a short presentation to a small group of people, a skill that we are sure many employers would like potential employees to be able to develop.

Now that learners have completed their project qualification, we hope they will take their experiences, understanding and skills with them into Year 10 and 11. Their resilience and sheer determination were admirable throughout this process and we look forward to seeing Project continue and evolve further at Matthew Moss.
