St Andrew's, Dearnley Midsummer Concert

Date published: 11 June 2013

ST Andrew's, Dearnley stages one of its biggest and best social events of the year this Saturday, June 15 - a Midsummer Concert which features, among other things, junior brass bands from local primary schools.

The event, which will be held outside if fine and in church otherwise, starts at 3.00pm and a bumper turn-out is expected.

Volunteers are required please to help out with the refreshment stalls and with the barbecues. Tickets are not necessary, just turn up and enjoy all the fun of the day, not to mention the musical abilities and the enthusiasm of the young people in the bands.

Carolyn Phillips, Brenda Kelly and Cynthia Giles represented St Andrew's at a Family Action Rochdale event attended by young carers and families, friends of Family Action (of which Carolyn is one) and representatives of organisations which make donations.

As part of the fund-raising effort Carolyn organises the sale of garden bulbs, the order form for which will be available soon and posted in the parish room.

Ken Harper, meanwhile, is continuing to work hard on our holiday prize draw for a full week for up to six people in a five-star holiday apartment which overlooks the sea in Torquay.

Tickets are £5 each with all proceeds going to the Wider Welcome project on which we hope to have some very positive news shortly.

We have our usual services this Sunday, Eucharist at 8am and Sung Eucharist at 10am with a Holy Baptism at noon.

Parish rota: lay assistants, J Paterson, J Townshend; readers, W Foote, Sheila Moore; Intercessions, J Mills; sidespersons, G Kilpatrick, M Sheridan; refreshments, Jean, Maureen, Edna.
