Sporting success for Oulder Hill School

Date published: 11 June 2013

The Year 7 and 8 cricket team competed in the Rochdale Schools’ Cricket Tournament at Rochdale Cricket Club last Thursday afternoon (6 June) and came top of their group.

They played Falinge Park and beat them by 40 runs and also defeated Mathew Moss by 30 runs. The boys also had the opportunity between matches to have some coaching with the Rochdale Pro (Wesley Lansdale) which they all thought was a great experience.

The students involved were: Thomas Booth, Daniel Cryer, Lewis Midgley, Ben Whitehead, Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe, Joe Wrest, Cameron Filkin, Anees Khan, Daniel Devine, Connor Moorhouse and Babar Rashid.

Well done also to the Year 9 and 10 cricket team who also gained qualification to the semi-finals of the Rochdale Schools’ Cricket Tournament.

Like the Year 7 and 8 team, they also finished undefeated, beating Falinge Park by 40 runs and Mathew Moss by 40 runs. Star players for the team were Bailey Smythe and Faad Khan, who both batted and bowled extremely well, taking some valuable wickets and scoring some very important runs. The semi-finals and final for both teams will be held shortly and we will update you on their progress in the next column.

Year 8 pupil Owain Harrison will be taking part in the next round of the Chess tournament on Sunday 14 July at Wright Robinson in Gorton. We will update you on his progress in future columns - good luck Owain!

Art students will be going on a visit to Manchester Metropolitan University on Monday 17 June. They will have the opportunity to see the university students’ final degree show and exhibition of art and design work, which is vital for their contextual study of artists’ work to help them with their GCSE work.

Teams from Oulder Hill will be taking part in the Rochdale Schools Athletics events on Wednesday and Thursday this week (19 and 20 June). Good luck to all students involved.

The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award final expedition will take place on Thursday 20 June. The students have been preparing hard for their expedition, and we hope the weather is good to them!

Year 7 Gifted and Talented students will be taking part in a Media Day at school on Friday 21 June.

The next payment of £30 for the Belgium Battlefields Trip is due before the end of term (Tuesday 23 July). Thank you for your support so far.
