Date published: 11 June 2013

On Saturday 8 June, 2013, Members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group cleaned the following Streets in small teams. Because of the increased support from the members of the community and particularly young people, now REAG have small teams and each team takes responsibility of certain streets and roads.

This week , two young boys and their parents were also involved and cleaned the open grassy area on King Street South. They cleaned the King Street South, Trafford Street.

One of the residents, invited the members of the Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) to his house and offered tea and biscuits. They also promised to take part in next week’s clean up.

REAG is campaigning to improve environment in the Borough and asking the Rochdale Council to take immediate steps about improving the condition of the derelict buildings and open areas which are being used for flytipping.

A spokesman said: "Milkstone & Deeplish area is the gateway to the Borough for people using trains and Metrolink. In the light of the various physical developments in the Rochdale Town Centre, this area does not present a positive image of the Town. REAG and the community would like to see the improvement in and around the Town Centre.

"REAG would like to see the action taken on flytipping in open spaces and also improvement/development of the derelict properties in the Borough of Rochdale. When built or improved, these places can bring businesses, employment and prosperity back to Rochdale."
