Parklife Weekender

Date published: 06 June 2013

On Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June 2013, Heaton Park, will play host to the Parklife Weekender with music lovers from across the country expected to make the journey to North Manchester.

Police are preparing for the major weekend of music.  Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry said: “Over both days, we are expecting tens of thousands of fans to descend on Heaton Park to watch their favourite bands perform. On top of this, Rod Stewart and Bon Jovi are also performing in Manchester so it will be a busy weekend however GMP is extremely experienced at policing large-scale events and we do not anticipate these will be any different to any others.

“Officers have been working very closely with the council and organisers to ensure that that revellers are safe and enjoy their weekend.

“I would ask everyone to drink responsibly and behave in an appropriate manner. We do not want to be killjoys and our aim is to see everyone go home with a smile on their faces. However, anyone causing trouble or seen to be taking drugs, will be dealt with by police accordingly.

“I would also ask fans to plan their journey well in advance and leave themselves plenty of time to get to the venue. Please park sensibly, be aware of your surroundings and keep yourself and valuables safe.

“Overall, I hope everyone enjoys themselves and the Parklife Weekender is another example of how the city of Manchester loves music.”
