Megan Callaghan with her Watson Trophy for Individual Dance
Megan Callaghan, a Year 9 pupil from Wardle High School, has recently received the Watson Trophy for Individual Dance after competing in The Rochdale Youth Festival of Performing Arts in February.
Megan has been dancing since she was young and her solo performance on this occasion was an Irish Dance to 3X by Chris Brown. Having entered in the category of school years 13 and under, Megan won the Watson Trophy, which she received two weeks ago at the Festival Concert, for achieving first place.
The festival runs annually and is administered through the Rochdale Music Service on behalf of the Rochdale Schools Service. It consists of numerous classes both competitive and non-competitive. This year’s festival took place during March where Megan performed at the Riverside Centre in Whitworth.
As well as being a strong performing academic school, Wardle High School has a strong tradition in the performing arts, but particularly in brass band music. The school has several groups and bands and they also support local primary schools.
