Foodbank Leaders, Iain and Margaret Wight
Rochdale Foodbank was 'Highly Commended' in the category of 'Community Group of the Year' at the prestigious Fusion Awards, which celebrate the multi-cultural work of individuals and organisations across the North West.
Foodbank leaders, Iain and Margaret Wight, are quick to point to the fantastic group of passionate volunteers who run the Foodbank week in, week out, and also the outstanding generosity of the Rochdale community, whose donations of over 30 tonnes of food (worth over £45,000), have made this so successful.
Mr Wight commented: "We are seeing a steady increase in demand for our services (over 300 families fed in May) and, so far, we have been able to meet that demand. But we are totally dependent on people giving food on a regular basis – I hope it becomes a ‘good habit’ to give one extra item of food to the foodbank for every ten items we buy for ourselves".
Rochdale Foodbank will be at ASDA, Rochdale, this Saturday, 8 June, from 9.00am - 4.00pm, where people can donate food.
