Groundwork thank volunteers for valuable support

Date published: 03 June 2013

Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale is using National Volunteers’ Week to say a big thank you to the thousands of volunteers that have worked on local projects over the past 30 years.

National Volunteers’ Week takes place from 1-7 June 2013 and this year’s Volunteers’ Week focusses on saying ‘Thank You’ to the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society.

For Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, volunteers continue to play a vital role in the life of the charity, much as they did when it first started in 1983. This year more than 150 people have already volunteered with Groundwork and over 60 people have pledged their support as volunteers via the Groundwork website.

Volunteering at Groundwork covers a wide range of opportunities, from working on local nature sites to office work and administration.

Martin Woodland, aged 26 and from Rochdale, volunteered with Groundwork on a Community Action Team. Martin commented: “Volunteering with Groundwork is fun, interesting, helpful and a good insight into helping get into employment. It has helped me a lot with training and given me a lot more confidence in working as a team and being able to help others.”

Teresa Jennings, Operations Director at Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, added: “We are extremely grateful to anyone who gives up their time to volunteer with us – whether that’s improving a public space or making life better for local people.

"Groundwork offers all volunteers the option of completing an accredited qualification and gaining next steps support such as help with their CV.

"I think this is an excellent way of thanking our volunteers and providing them with additional benefits to their volunteering.”
