United Utilities Community Fund helps local charities

Date published: 22 May 2013

Local charities and not for profit organisations have received help and donations from the United Utilities Community Fund.

The monetary donations that have come through the fund were from a pot of money made available to all local not-for-profit organisations, charities or groups.

A simple application form is completed stating what the group or cause is and what they do. Applications are then put before a board who decide who gets what.

As United Utilities is currently spending heavily on Rochdale's waste water network, there was £3,000 available to the local community, this money has now all been allocated.

Roch Valley Park Ranger Mike Cummings upgraded the footpaths and created additional footpaths within the park area. United Utilities donated stone to the park to aid in upgrading the footpaths.

Hopwood Park also received a cheque of £500 from United Utilities project co-ordinator Lucy Ryan during a recent wildflower planting day.

Rochdale Girl Guides received £1,000 for their Women in Engineering project and the group has used the money to buy a new video camera.

Our Lady of St Paul's Primary School received £1,000. The money has gone towards their school's sensory garden. The garden is scheduled to be finished in June

With United Utilities undertaking a lot of work in Rochdale, they are keen to help the local community.
