Police award for Samantha Hammond
Date published: 21 May 2013
Samantha Hammond has received a Police Certificate of Merit (plus a box of Heroes) in recognition of her "exemplary actions" in helping reunite a stolen puppy with its 8-year-old owner, Izzy Duffy.
Samantha came across a little puppy wandering around on the Tesco Express Car Park on Whitworth Road and, noticing the puppy seemed rather lost, she took it home and set about tracing the owner.
Following the burglary in which the puppy was stolen, Izzy's father, Chris Duffy, had launched an appeal via Rochdale Online and Samantha was informed of the appeal.
Samantha contacted the family resulting in the puppy being reunited with one very happy young owner.
Izzy has written a letter to Rochdale Online saying:
"Dear Rochdale Online,
"Thank you for helping me get my puppy (Skittles) back.
"She is very special to me. I was heartbroken when she was stolen. I'm a lot happier now I have her back. I'm very grateful to Samantha for finding her.
"Love from
"Izzy."
