Continuous cleaning promotes a healthy Rochdale

Date published: 20 May 2013

In a commitment to improve the environment of their area, the Rochdale Environmental Group (REAG) cleared 20 bags of rubbish from local streets in another successful clean up.

In a bid to stop this kind of litter problem, the group and local businesses are asking for larger bins to be placed in the area. A spokesman for the REAG said: “Some shops have very small bins attached to the poles outside of their businesses. These are too small to accommodate the amount of litter people throw in it in a day. The result is that they overflow and cause litter in the area.”

Joined by local children, residents, youth services, staff and centre manager for the Deeplish Community Centre, Sohail Ahmed, the group cleared rubbish from Hare Street, Ipswich Street, Milkstone Road, Gate Street, Ashfield Road, Cecil Street, Pomona Street and Pike Street in Deeplish.

The spokesman added; “It will have a positive impact in other areas. Most of the streets and roads are cleaner now. It clearly shows that people, businesses and organisations are working together and sharing their knowledge and experience with other people.”

REAG want to encourage more people to improve the environment in Rochdale to make it cleaner, safer and greener. The spokesman added: “Please clean your areas and properties and grow flowers and vegetables in the open areas.”
