Mayor Making Ceremony 2013 - Councillor Peter Rush is the new Mayor

Councillor Peter Rush was sworn in as the new Mayor of Rochdale Borough at the Mayor Making Ceremony at Rochdale Town Hall.

Former Mayor and Mayoresses, MPs, Councillors and invited guests watched as last year’s Mayor James Gartside handed over the chains of office to Councillor Rush.

Peter Rush was born in Rochdale and attended Norden Secondary Modern and Rochdale Technical College where he qualified as an electrician.

Peter has lived in Heywood for the past 50 years, 22 of which he owned the Albany Hotel.

Before becoming proprietor of The Albany, Peter was Works Director at Trutex.

He also played for Rochdale Hornets and later became chairman.

Peter has been with his wife Monica, who is now the Mayoress, for the past 12 years. Between them they have five children and eleven grandchildren.

Peter said: "I am honoured to procure the role of Mayor of Rochdale Borough and I am honour bound to fulfil my duties."

Councillor Carol Wardle was appointed Deputy Mayor, her eldest daughter, Beverley Place is Deputy Mayoress.


The Mayor's Charity Appeal 2013-2014

This year Mayor Peter Rush, supported by the Mayoress, Mrs Monica Rush, will be raising funds for Rochdale Branch of Parkinsons UK and local charities.
