Annual tea party goes down a treat

Date published: 16 May 2013

The fifth annual tea party held by the Crimble in aid of Springhill Hospice Hospice at Home saw 90 people attend and raise £1000.

Chairwoman Vivien Thompson said: “These events are important because these days, every service needs extra money.”

Vivien added: “People put a lot of time into this and with the tea party being an established event; we wanted to continue it this year.”

After such a successful year last year, the group had to limit the number of people attending but continue fundraising throughout the year by holding quizzes and fun nights for everyone involved.

Diane Page, one of the managers at The Crimble said: “This is definitely an important event. Some of the ladies don’t go out in the evening so this let's them share something with everyone else.”

Manager of the Peacock Room, David Bowman-Powell said: “We usually shut the room on a Monday and a Tuesday but this was the only way we could get everyone in.”

Vivien, who has run all five previous events, praised the efforts made by the staff saying: “They do this to give something back to the community. They all had smiles on their faces.”

On offer where a mixture of sandwiches made by the fine dining chefs along with freshly baked cakes, scones, pizza, clotted cream and fresh tea and coffee.

Mayor Jim Gartside, who attended the event, said: “The amount of work that has gone into today has been an achievement. The Crimble has been generous again with their hosting and the committee have done a great job.”

Hospice at Home gives patients the option of choosing the best end of life care for themselves. Since their start in July the scheme has helped 96 people to be nursed at home and has helped 123 patients and families use the service.

Vivien added: “We are delighted at the response from the public. In times where money is tight and from an area that has been hit the hardest, people still show total generosity.”
