Drake Street road closure

Date published: 13 May 2013

From today, Monday 13 May, as part of the works to construct the Rochdale town centre Metrolink extension, contractors will carry out resurfacing work on Drake Street between the junction of Baron Street/Water Street and the junction of Drake Street/Oldham Road.

This will involve planing out the existing highway surface and laying new surfacing materials.

To enable these works to take place, this section of Drake Street will be closed to traffic between the hours of 9am and 6pm. This work is expected to continue until Thursday 16 May 2013.

Local traffic diversions will be clearly signposted during these closures. Access for businesses on lower Drake Street, and the River Street car park, will be maintained wherever possible while works are undertaken at the Baron Street/Water Street/River Street junction.

Pedestrian access along Oldham Road and Drake Street will be maintained at all times.

Vehicular access will be maintained along Oldham Road, between Milnrow Road and Drake Street. Vehicles will access this section of Oldham Road from Milnrow Road rather than from Drake Street and there will be no through road into Drake Street from this section of Oldham Road, creating a temporary cul-de-sac.
