Man suffers facial injuries in assault

A man suffered serious facial injuries following a ferocious blow to the face during an assault in a Rochdale pub.

At about 3.30pm on Friday 26 April 2013, the 42-year-old victim was in the smoking area at the rear of the White Lion on Yorkshire Street, having moments earlier intervened in an argument between the offender and member of staff.

The offender hit the victim in the side of the face before running off along Yorkshire Street.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to a shattered eye socket and damage to his retina. He also had three teeth knocked out.

The suspect is described as white, about 5ft 6in tall, of medium build, between 28 and 30 years old, with short black hair and was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a light blue line across the chest.

Detective Constable Amie Darnell, said: “The victim simply intervened in a verbal argument between the offender and a member of staff and suffered a devastating blow for his troubles moments later.

“This was an unprovoked assault that has left the victim with very nasty facial injuries.

“There were a number of other people present at the pub and I want their help to identify the offender.

“If you were in the pub at the time, saw what happened or know the person responsible please call the police.”
