2,500 miles, 92 football grounds and only two bikes

Date published: 08 May 2013

Two intrepid cyclists will be arriving at Rochdale Football Club on the 6 July on the final leg of an epic 2,500 mile journey taking in 92 football league grounds in the country.

Peter Cooper of Okehampton and David Clarke from Hinkley, will start their journey in Northampton on 1 June and complete the final leg from Bradford, then Huddersfield before reaching Rochdale. They then  cycle on to Bury, Oldham, Manchester City and end at Manchester United.

Peter said: "Rochdale is on our final leg of the 2,500 mile event so will be a very big day for us.

The motivation for the ride is to 'Cycle the 92' for the charity Edgar's Gift, which provides support for young adults who are suffering from cancer.

The Cycling the 92 challenge involves cycling to the 92 football league grounds in the country, covering over 2,500 miles.

Blackacre Farm Eggs is supporting the challenge and spokesman Dan said: "As a family we have known Peter and his Dad for over 20 years and when we heard about the challenge for Edgar's Gift we were delighted to be able to offer our help and support.

"The work of Edgar's Gift is invaluable to so many young adults, their friends and families, and we hope that people get on board and support Peter and David as they Cycle the 92 and help raise much needed funds for the charity."

Edgar's Gift was set-up in 2012 in the memory of Ben Edkins, David's step-brother, who passed away at the age of 25 after a year-long battle with cancer. Through donations, sponsored events and the generosity of its supporters, the charity is able to provide special days out, unique experiences and luxury gifts for those aged 18-30 who are suffering from cancer.
