Four of our Year 10 students have been successful in their application for The Salters' Institute Chemistry camps this summer.
These are three-day residential events held at Universities throughout the UK, with sixty students from across the UK participating in each Camp. Participants at each Camp will experience hands-on practical Chemistry in University labs, lively chemical demonstrations, a taste of life in the University Halls of Residence, with time to socialise or relax.
Amy Bullock will go to Cambridge University and Katie Davies, Yasmin Ruane and Jonathan Smith will all go to York University. Congratulations on getting through and the very best of luck with your studies.
Revision breakfasts have been taking place in the RE department with World religions: Judaism, Islam and Hinduism being studied during half term. Our ‘Design an Altar Cloth’ competition starts next week – details can be obtained from Mr Ansley.
Year 7 News - Attendance Challenge - Well done form 7.4 with a weekly attendance of 99%. Congratulations to Jordan Hennessey, form 7.1, the achievement points draw winner. Deposits for the rewards trip should now have been returned to school to ensure your first choice of trip. Year 7 parents evening is Wednesday 15th May and letters have been sent home. Please sign and return to school as soon as possible. Pupils should now be making appointments with their subject teachers.
This week’s theme was Our Lady and our Enterprise capability was Team Work. This half-term’s focus for Year 7 is Problem Solving.
Our Saints of the Week this week were the Apostles St Philip and St James whose feast day was 3rd May. Jesus tested Philip’s faith by challenging him to feed the crowd of 5000. This allowed the miracle of the loaves and fishes to take place. St James was an important leader of the early Christian community in Jerusalem and was its first Bishop. His Letter contains instructions on how to live a Christian life. Students prayed for the intercession of St Philip and St James and were asked to consider if others would recognise them as disciples of Christ.
Our Lay Chaplain, Kathryn Ansley, was commissioned with other School Chaplains by Bishop Brain during a special Mass at Salford Cathedral on Weds 8 May, accompanied by Head Teacher, Dr Meehan.
And finally, it is with immense gratitude to all who have contributed, that we announce our total sum raised from Lenten charities this year - £3410! £1280 will go to Francis House and £2130 will go to Caritas. Thank you very much to every pupil, teacher and parent who has helped. In Christ We Serve.
