Young men invited to get in their 'Stride'

Date published: 08 May 2013

Boys and young men aged between 10 and 20 years old from across the borough are being invited to get involved in a new dance project called ‘Stride’.

Participants will take part in a seven-week series of free dance sessions.

This will be followed by the chance to perform alongside groups from eight other boroughs at the end of July in a final dance performance taking place in Manchester city centre.

Stride is an educational project developed by the Salford-based, all-male contemporary dance theatre group Company Chameleon and professional dance artists from the group will lead the weekly sessions. The aim is to encourage, nurture and train young men in dance, to develop confidence, skills and trust.

Link4Life’s Head of Arts & Heritage, Julian Jefferson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is enthusiastic about dance and who would like to develop their skills to work with real experts. Stride is part of an on-going commitment to invest in the development of the future creative economy of Greater Manchester and Link4Life is delighted to be giving it our support.”

Link4Life is inviting young men who would like to find out more to a free 1½ hour taster session at Rochdale Leisure Centre at Entwisle Road on Wednesday 22 May at 4pm. Participation is free and no previous dance experience is required. Follow up sessions will take place on Sunday afternoons.
