Woman threatened in her own home by two men

Date published: 07 May 2013

A woman was threatened in her own home by two men in Rochdale.

The 20-year-old victim was sat in the living room of her home on Unity Crescent, Heywood when she heard a banging at the front door.

Two men, with their faces covered, smashed open the door and walked inside, demanding they were given cannabis.

They pushed her onto the sofa and told her to give them a crowbar. When she said she did not have one, one of the men grabbed a knife and took her upstairs.

They searched the home and when it was apparent there was no cannabis plants, they left, taking her purse and mobile phone.

The woman was not hurt in the incident on Monday 22 April 2013.

One man is described as being white, in his early 20s, 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, had short dark hair, was unshaven with a large nose. He was wearing a dark coloured adidas hooded top with three light blue stripes, a scarf around his neck that was pulled up to his face and spoke with a local accent. He wore blue surgical gloves.

The second man is described as being white, in his early 20s, 5ft 10in tall, of slim build with a very thin face. He was clean shaven, wore a red cap, beige waterproof coat and blue surgical gloves.

Detective Constable Dan Daly from Rochdale South INPT said: “Thanks to the description of the first man given by the victim, we have been able to produce an efit. She has been left traumatised after her ordeal and feared for not only her safety, but that of her three-year-old son who was asleep in his bedroom. Thankfully both were not hurt.

“We believe this has been a case of mistaken identity but this does not excuse the actions of these men. I would ask members of the public to take a good look at the image and if they recognise this man or the description of the second man, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8701 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
