Flat Stanley project

Date published: 07 May 2013

Class 3 at St John with St Michael Primary School in Shawforth have embarked on a Flat Stanley project.

The children have all produced their own Flat Stanley, and posted them to friends and relatives around the world.

Flat Stanley is a character in a children’s book by Jeff Brown.

Stanley Lambchop gets flattened one night whilst he is asleep, from a bulletin board that was on his bedroom wall, he then goes on many mischievous adventures in his flattened state.

The aim is for the people who receive these to then take photographs of the various adventures in their villages, towns or on their holiday destinations with the Flat Stanley in the picture. These photographs are then posted or emailed back to Class 3 accompanied with a postcard or letter of the adventure. The children have to then plot on a world map where the Flat Stanley's have travelled.

It has been very exciting and also very interesting the amount of creative curriculum links the children (and staff) have got out of this.

We have had Flat Stanley's back from Spain, Wales, Blackpool, down the South of England in places we can't pronounce and Bacup!

If anyone would like to take part in our project - we need him to travel all around the world, then please e-mail class3@sjsm.lancs.sch.uk and we will send you a Flat Stanley and the instructions.
