Chip pan fire in Milnrow
Date published: 04 May 2013
A chip pan fire started at house in Dale Street, Milnrow, after the occupant turned on his oven forgetting the pan was stored inside.
The man tackled the fire himself by throwing water on the blaze and managed to put the fire out by the time firefighters arrived, however, the man's chip pan was destroyed and his oven was badly damaged in the blaze.
Fire crews carried out a Home Safety Check looking at the fire risks in the man's home, and gave him advice and support about how to be safer and ensured he had working smoke alarms in case he suffers a fire again.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has a Ban the Pan campaign, encouraging people to ditch old fashioned chip pans and use safer alternatives instead such as thermostatically controlled deep fat fryers and oven chips.
