Michelle and Amber win Fairy House building competition

Date published: 05 May 2013

The Fairy House building competition held in Healey Dell had an amazing and the judges chose two winners, Michelle and Amber.

The a Fairy House had to be built using only natural materials found in the Nature Reserve.

Janice Percy of Healey Dell tea Room and Heritage Centre who organised the competition said: "Of course the Healey Dell fairies are not very tall, we were therefore left speechless to discover that one entrant had built a fairy hotel; our first reaction upon seeing what was a huge and incredibly well built entry was that surely nothing could beat it.

"However, on reflection we had to make the very difficult decision not to include it amongst the two winners as it failed on grounds of not being (strictly speaking) a Fairy House as it was so big, in fact, it was big enough to house humans!

"We could not exclude it completely as we felt the effort and the many hours of building and creativity invested had to be worth acknowledging. Therefore we have invited the little girl pictured in the image (by the Fairy Hotel) to visit the Healey Dell Heritage Centre to collect a special Fairy Wish Jar.

"It's fair to point out that building a Fairy House (especially for little hands using mainly twigs) is not as easy as you might think.

"Well done to everyone that entered.

"We look forward to holding another event very soon."

Costume designer Amanda Logan sponsored the competition.
