Town centre retailers who despaired at the poor quality of a video entered by Rochdale Town Centre Management in an attempt to win a share of one million pounds from the Government's 'High Street Renewal Award' will not be surprised to learn that Town Centre Management's bid has failed.
One retailer said on viewing the video: "I have to say that if you are really wanting to demonstrate innovation and improvements to our town centre that would warrant being rewarded with a government grant of £1 million and being the ‘winner’ of the X Fund, suffice to say, a video of that quality does not do that."
The seven towns across the country that are being recognised for the innovative ways in which they have revitalised their high streets include Altrincham in the North West.
Judged by a panel of experts, the towns were chosen for the innovative ideas they implemented, the results they achieved and their ability to promote good practice. They win a share of £1 million.
