Safe containing jewellery stolen during burglary

Burglars ransacked a Rochdale house and got their hands on a family safe containing valuable jewellery.

The break-in took place sometime between 11am and 3pm on Wednesday 1 May, at the house on Kingsway.

Having forced their way in through a side window, the offenders rummaged through each room, leaving items scattered.

While witnesses have helped, police are appealing for more information to help trace the items and the culprits.

A brief description of the offenders is that they were white, in their late teens and wearing jeans. One of them was 5ft 5in tall and another was 5ft 3in tall.

Detective Constable Donna Rollinson said: "This family has been left shattered, not only by the trauma of having someone break into their house, but also by the fact that they have lost jewellery of tremendous value to them.

"The majority was gold Asian jewellery and I would urge anyone who has been offered any jewellery to make contact with the police.

"We are also appealing for witnesses. Given the state they left the house in, the offenders are likely to have been inside for a good few minutes."
